Problem
Blue carbon ecosystems (mangroves, seagrass meadows and salt marshes) store large amounts of carbon, but monitoring them and issuing trustworthy credits is slow and hard to verify.
Approach
A full-stack platform for project management, satellite-based monitoring, field data collection and credit issuance. Monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) data is anchored on-chain, and credits are minted as NFTs on the Polygon network, so anyone can trace a credit back to the evidence behind it.
Key features
- Project lifecycle. Each project moves from draft to review, monitoring and issuance, under a recognised carbon methodology (VM0033, VM0007 or CDM), with its location mapped.
- Digital MRV studio. Sentinel Hub imagery, NDVI calculations and before/after comparison over a polygon area of interest drawn on the map.
- Field data collection. GPS plot tracking, species and environmental logging and multi-image upload, with an image credibility check before a validator reviews it.
- Carbon credits as NFTs. Issuance, vintage tracking and retirement, with the MRV hash and verification standard in the metadata.
- Marketplace. A place to trade and retire credits in the open.
- Role-based access. Admin, validator and user roles with a validator review workflow.
On-chain
Three Solidity contracts on the Polygon testnet: a project registry, an ERC-721 contract for the credits, and an MRV registry that stores the verification data. The backend talks to them through Web3.py.
Under the hood
A React front end with Radix UI, Tailwind and Leaflet maps, and a FastAPI backend on MongoDB with JWT authentication. A guided tour walks new users through the dashboard.
